Counter Strike co creator Minh “Gooseman” Le amazed by games created in level design contest
Core’s latest contest centered around level design and competitive shooter gameplay called Arenas of Combat had over 50 games submitted. All were made in a few weeks or less and are already in the top best games on Core at the moment.
The winners were elected by a panel of judges led by Minh “Gooseman” Le (the co-creator of Counter-Strike) which said, about Core ...
“it’s a really fantastic concept as it seems to build a bridge between indie/mod developers and the community. I believe the biggest challenge that modders face in today's crowded industry is that of exposure.”
Coming from the modding community, Minh Le is looking forward to see more games created in Core “I think that user-generated content is the next big step for the games industry and it will be exciting to see games and genres that no one has ever made before. Core empowers any indie dev or modder to make a game very easily and quickly and publish it with a click of a button so anyone can make the next big game.”
He even think the next Dust 2 could come up from this platform: “Who knows, the next big map like Dust 2 could come out of this contest!"
Here are the winners, if you want to try them clic on the link and you’ll be invited to register in Core Open Alpha.

Overall Winner: Paint Brawl by cptdeas
A fast-paced competitive team shooter where strategy counts just as much as aim. Roll from cover to cover to move up the map, coordinate with team-mates to pin enemies down and set up the perfect crossfire. Last team standing wins the round, first team to 10 wins the match!

Best Urban Level: Street Wars by Cardinal Zebra
Run through narrow city corridors and open squares, where randomly spawning weapons keep the combat continually fresh. Fast-paced combat is the name of the game!
Honorable Mentions: RDoman’s Movie Set Shooter captured our attention with its intense gameplay, and marcepan’s Battle Tendency hooked us as well.

Best SciFi Level: Sentry Crater by estlogic
Two teams are locked in a deadly power struggle for control of a superweapon called The Sentry! In order to complete their objectives, they need to take control of the command facility, and that requires completely eliminating the opposing team! But beware, linger too long and The Sentry’s red eye might find you.
Honorable Mentions: The level design and gameplay of Darman117’s Core Legends deserves a shoutout, as does the enjoyment we had while playing MisterSandman’s Colony Clash.

Best Nature Level: Arboretum by sukhraj
The remains of the Valley Lumber Co. are a peaceful backdrop for gun-game mayhem. Creator sukhraj, a professional level designer, brought all his skills to Core to create one of the platform’s most polished maps.
Honorable Mentions: Gruppy’s Lumberyard Deathmatch showed good overall promise, and threeguysgamestudio’s Grand Battle Melee was an amazing mix of objectives and gameplay.

Best Spooky Level: Damned Valley by NANIMOON
Hunt through an enchantingly diverse environment in search of the best weapons while others do the same. From a dilapidated chapel that hides a masterwork crossbow to murky sewers that contain a skeleton grasping a rusty shotgun, the level of detail in this map is impressive.
Honorable Mentions: rtwarner’s Deathlab Deathmatch has a fantastic atmosphere and aesthetic, and TheHauntedTopHat’s House of Malfeasance was a wonderfully original take on a “witch hunt” game mode.

Best Framework: SKO: Block Buster Arena by CosmicKiwi
Fight in a procedurally generated, destructible map filled with loot and capture points hidden beneath the ground’s surface! A very unique game that pushes Core in new and impressive directions.
Honorable Mentions: Liveonnoevil/WaveParadigm’s Upgrade Arena was a wonderfully diverse entry with lots of great elements and selimsamot’s Juggernaut Game Mode simplistic entry has us enjoying it far more than we expected.
