Beyond the Long Night Lifts Off for a Whimsical Time Loop Adventure in Early 2023

Yogscast Games is delighted to announce that it has partnered with Noisy Head Games to release charming twin-stick action roguelike puzzle game Beyond the Long Night in early 2023 on PC and Mac. A playable demo is also available to download now on Steam for a limited time.

How many sound designers does it take to make an indie game? Well, Noisy Head Games is giving it a go with three. Having all met in the audio department of Frontier Developments, the studio shares a passion for creating unique game worlds that sound as good as they look and are an absolute hoot to explore.

Explore the Dark Mountain in a subterranean world full of monsters, secrets and lovable characters as you puzzle, upgrade and battle your way through three randomly generated areas to outrun a deadly storm and escape to the Overworld beyond. Uncover a trail of mysteries in an ancient kingdom of demigods and explorers, captured within an endless time loop.

Discover the Dark Mountain's secrets and learn more about the world each time you play, solving puzzles and befriending mountain folk on your journey through the underground to uncover the true nature of the Storm. Complete side quests and follow their stories across multiple runs, and acquire, stack and combine powerful upgrades to wreak havoc on your foes.

GAME FEATURES:

  • A charming single-player adventure set in a world caught within a time loop.

  • Shoot, dodge, throw items and use superpowers to fight your way through The Dark Mountain. All upgrades are infinitely stackable and combine with each other to create chaotic combinations.

Noisy Head Games was founded by lead developer Steve Hollis in early 2020. His past titles include Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo and Jurassic World: Evolution, where he specialised in music and music systems. Steve is joined by sound designers Ross Stack (As Dusk Falls, Elite: Dangerous) and Pablo Canas (Hellblade 2, Planet Zoo) in developing Beyond the Long Night: a charming roguelike adventure game.

“Beyond the Long Night is a belter of a game,” said Simon Byron, Director of Publishing at Yogscast Games. “From the moment I first saw the game, it had something enchanting about it. The atmosphere, the sound and the constant need to push to the surface, the game welcomes you in and pushes you through with a ferocious, yet charming force.”

“I was inspired by being stuck inside during COVID and wanting to get out, and that’s a feeling that is mirrored in Beyond the Long Night, to reach the outside world again,” added Steve Hollis, Founder at Noisy Head Games. “I wanted to create a fusion of roguelike and adventure-puzzle games that keeps you moving and keeps you guessing.

“I used to do all sorts of programming and audio-related things at Frontier Developments, before working on Beyond the Long Night full time in early 2020,” Hollis continued. “The game is being developed by myself and two sound designers, Ross and Pablo, who I worked with previously at Frontier. That means 100 per cent of the team making the game are audio game developers - a record, I believe.”
