A Brief History of WW1 Game Series
Starting in 2013, Verdun was the first Dutch game to be greenlit on Steam, becoming a breakout success that laid the foundation for the series. It introduced players to authentic WW1 action with close-quarters trench warfare, period weaponry, and iconic Western Front battlefields.
Tannenberg expanded the experience with large-scale maneuver warfare on the Eastern Front, while Isonzo took the series to new heights with intense alpine combat in the Italian Alps and received widespread acclaim.
Over the past 12 years, Blackmill games has evolved all the games in the series, with 24 free expansions (10 for Verdun, 5 for Tannenberg, and 9 for Isonzo) and aim to continue that way. Together, the WW1 Game Series has sold more than 2 million copies, now the next chapter begins with Gallipoli.
Gallipoli: The Next Front
BlackMill Games is continuing development on the next title, Gallipoli, set to launch in 2026. The FPS will take players to one of WW1’s most iconic and under-represented campaigns, expanding the series with dramatic new Middle Eastern settings, tactics, and terrain. Inspired by the expeditionary warfare of the historical Gallipoli and Mesopotamia campaigns, this will be the most diverse battlefield yet in the series.
Players can sign up here for upcoming Gallipoli playtests, with the first session taking place on the evening of 19 September. Exact start and end times will be shared with those invited to join.
