Tron-Inspired Skater Shooter CoreRunner Releases New Demo Today

Developer Garland, in partnership with publishing platform indie.io, has released a refreshed playable demo for CoreRunner, a high-speed third-person skater shooter that blends gunplay, sword combat, and deadly light trails into a fast-paced arcade experience. The demo is available now on Steam, offering players a hands-on look at the game’s kinetic combat and unique movement system.

In CoreRunner, players skate at breakneck speeds through a spherical arena deep within a digital core, weaving between enemies and obstacles while chaining together gunfire, melee strikes, and glowing light trails that slice through threats from behind. Inspired by the neon spectacle of Tron-inspired light trails and the high-momentum combat of skating shooters, the game challenges players to balance speed, positioning, and precision as they fight to escape the Core.

The refreshed demo gives players an early look at CoreRunner’s signature mechanics, including its distinctive skating movement and untethered arena traversal. While the action may initially resemble an on-rails shooter, players are fully free to move within the enclosed spherical environment, where enemies loop back into view as momentum carries players around the arena. Alongside shooting and slashing attacks, players can weaponize the character’s light trail, leaving a glowing path behind them that damages enemies approaching from the rear.

Across the roughly 25-minute demo, players will experience CoreRunner’s fast, arcade-style combat loop built around speed, jumping, and chaining attacks while experimenting with speed and shield boosters, enhanced dash control, and new trail grinding mechanics.
