Supernatural Comedy “Shadows of the Afterland” Haunts Nintendo Switch on May 5
Aruma Studios announced today that, following a highly successful PC launch, their critically acclaimed supernatural mystery Shadows of the Afterland will launch on Nintendo Switch on May 5, 2026. The official store page is now live on the Nintendo store in America, Europe, and Australia.
Praised by both players and critics, with a 97% positive rating on Steam and an 82% average critic score, Shadows of the Afterland brings its mature narrative and unique mechanics to console audiences. Players guide Carolina, a police investigator who awakens in the afterlife, in the past, before her own birth. As a ghost with a face she doesn’t recognize, she must master possession to interact with the living and solve the mystery of her own death.
The Nintendo Switch version delivers the full experience: full voice acting, detailed pixel art, and seamless possession mechanics, now optimized for the Switch controls.
Key features:
Possess the living: Take control of multiple characters, each with unique skills, to manipulate the physical world.
A mystery across two realms: Solve puzzles that span the worlds of the living and the dead, connecting past actions to future consequences.
A mature narrative: A dark story exploring identity, murder, and addiction, brought to life by a professional voice cast.
Modern interface: Classic point-and-click depth featuring detailed pixel art and a modern interface that supports both direct and pointer control.
“We've rewritten the controls from the ground up to deliver a native experience for Nintendo Switch,” said Rubén López, story and puzzle designer and programmer. “The direct control makes it very comfortable to play, and for those who prefer moving the pointer, that’s also fully supported - including touchscreen and external mice.”
“We have been completely blown away by the incredible reception Shadows of the Afterland has received on PC,” added Silvia Izquierdo, who oversees production. “Players have been eagerly asking for the Switch version. After a lot of hard work adapting the game, we are excited to finally put it in their hands this May.”
