Pantaloon launches The Playbill: an evolving library of bold and bizarre games.
Pantaloon has announced and launched the Playbill; an evolving library of bold and bizarre games accessed via subscription.
An extension of Pantalon’s newsletter partnerships - which has seen over 50,000 subscribers congregate around monthly key drops from notable partners - the Playbill will offer a more permanent stage for high-concept and genre-abusing indie games, and aims to be the game-pass for connoisseurs of the more eclectic end of the indie spectrum.
The Playbill launches with 14 games in the main roster, adding new titles each month, as well as all of Pantaloon’s own original titles on Day 1 of release.
The full launch lineup includes: Buckshot Roulette (Critical Reflex, Mike Klubnika), Silt (Fireshine, Spiral Circus Games), Ex Sanguis (Firesquid, Lightbulb Crew), Death Crown (5WORD Team), KIDS (Playables), Four Last Things (Akupara Games, Joe Richardson), Cabin Factory (Future Friends Games, International Cat Studios), and Pantaloon’s own Sub-Verge, Occlude, It Takes a War, BOXROOM, OFFBEAT and the newly released ROLLA.
For launch, the Playbill also welcomes Virtue: Prologue as a timed-exclusive from Devolver. Created by Juno Menager in collaboration with Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, Virtue: Prologue is a visual novella companion piece to the upcoming Virtue and a Sledgehammer coming October 27th, and is precisely the bold, non-comforming slice of interactive experience that the Playbill was set up for.
An extension of that philosophy, the Playbill also includes a channel now known as The Green Room; a space for exclusive demos, playtests, prototypes and other irregular slices of game from notable studios. For launch, players will be able to get access to playtests for Isle Goblin (Fireshine, Kilowatt Games), Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game (Behaviour Interactive, Gambit Digital, Giant Light Studios), and Lemonade Apocalypse (Pantaloon).
Since the Pantaloon newsletter began in 2024, the label has put weird and wonderful games into the inboxes of its community, which now totals over 50,000 subscribers. The Playbill is a space for these indie tastemakers to congregate, find notable works, and engage with Pantaloon’s monthly puzzles and challenges, which are now integrated into the Playbill itself.
“Pantaloon was initially set up as a rediscovery platform” said Jamin Smith, Founder of Pantaloon, “Release date doesn’t mean too much if you’re seeing a great game for the first time. And while there are game-pass style services for AAA and mobile, there wasn’t anything that prominently catered to the more eclectic, indie-end of the spectrum. We want the Playbill to be a celebration of more experimental and eccentric games. The nature of the model reduces that barrier to entry for players to check out genres and experiences that might not be surfaced by Steam’s market-shaping algorithms. It’s also worth stating that we won’t feature or platform any games that use gen-AI in any form; the Playbill is a celebration of the craft of making games.”
The profile, puzzles and connected community features of the Playbill can be accessed at no cost, with the full roster of games then available via a ‘Primo’ subscription ($4.99/£3.99 monthly, or $49.99/£39.99 for annual) - the latter of which unlocks the full collection of games instantly.
Take a seat, the show is about to begin!
