One Special Day: Games industry raises over £760k for SpecialEffect
The charity is indebted to the many games industry companies from across the world who came together to support their life-changing work. Donations from the campaign on and around 3 October derived from sales income of mobile and PC games plus a variety of innovative company-driven fundraising challenges and the inaugural One Special Walk cross-London walk
The funds raised from One Special Day will be a huge boost in the charity’s mission to enrich inclusion and quality of life by helping people with physical disabilities to play video games to the best of their abilities.
Dr Mick Donegan, SpecialEffect’s CEO and Founder, said “We’re truly overwhelmed by the extraordinary support we’ve received from our friends across the games industry through One Special Day, especially during a challenging period for so many companies. As demand for our services continues to rise, this remarkable contribution will play a vital role in helping us share the joy of gaming with thousands of people with physical disabilities - and in supporting developers worldwide to make their games accessible to everyone.”
The total is the largest in the campaign’s ten-year history and represents around 25% of the funds currently required each year for the charity to maintain their vital services.
