Newly Released ShantyTown is Now Playable on Mac and Steam Deck
Publisher Kinephantom Games and solo developer Erik Rempen of Silk Softworks are pleased to announce that ShantyTown is now available on Mac and is officially Steam Deck Verified, giving more players the chance to express themselves and enjoy the charm of improvised towns, layered rooftops, and cozy, lived-in spaces either at home or on the go.
To celebrate the milestone, ShantyTown is on sale for the week at 20% off, beginning June 1st and ending June 5th.
Released on Steam earlier this year on the 16th April, ShantyTown quickly found an audience among players seeking a city-building experience shaped less by pressure and optimisation, and more by mood and personal expression. Players are tasked to create dense little communities across unusual spaces, stacking homes, signs, lights, utilities, greenery, and decorations into living dioramas that perfectly exhibit their unique take on design.
Since launch, the game has also gotten a strong response from journalists across the cosy and indie space.

Kotaku featured ShantyTown as its Indie of the Week, calling it an “excellent little game about building upward”, highlighting the way it turns cozy construction into something calm, generous, and creatively satisfying.

GamerBlurb also came forward and awarded ShantyTown a 9.1/10, praising it as “incredibly relaxing without being empty”, describing its compact, layered towns as a setting filled with character that prompts small design decisions that keep every map rewarding.

DualShockers gave ShantyTown an 8/10, describing it as “fun, well-made, and gorgeous when you finish a location,” while Gamer Social Club praised the full release as “even more phenomenal” than the demo, highlighting its relaxed design, creative tools, and near-limitless replayability.
Together, the reception reflects what ShantyTown set out to be from the start: a small, thoughtful builder where the joy comes from shaping a space, stepping back, and seeing something personal emerge from the clutter.
In ShantyTown, players take on the role of a surveyor travelling through Westmarsh, designing and cataloguing different locations across the region. Each build asks players to balance lighting, utility, and decoration while still leaving room for their own touches. Some towns grow vertically across cliff sides and rooftops, while others spread across islands or marshlands.

Alongside its campaign, ShantyTown includes Creative Mode that allows players to revisit locations, build freely, and use the game’s tools at their own pace. With its adaptive soundtrack by vaporwave artist Macroblank, dynamic atmosphere, and detailed camera tools, the game continues to offer a calm creative space for players who enjoy building without being rushed.
ShantyTown is now available on Steam for Windows and Mac, with full Steam Deck Verification. Its custom Steam sale begins on 1st June.
