Maiden of the Dark Now Live on Kickstarter
Indie game developer TigerChainsaw Studios has announced that the Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of Maiden of the Dark, a retro-inspired action-platformer for the Game Boy, is now live.
Maiden of the Dark is a fast-paced game that channels the spirit of Game Boy classics like Operation C and Return of the Ninja. Players traverse 10 perilous stages - from fiery villages and spiked caverns to raging rivers and mountain peaks - mastering combat, dodging traps, and defeating powerful bosses, all to the pulse of a heavy-metal soundtrack. Precision and timing are key, making every battle a test of skill and endurance.
Set in rural Japan, the game follows a desperate village overrun by the ruthless warlord Zankoku and his shoguns. In desperation, the villagers summon the Maiden of the Dark, an ancient spirit whose strength fades with daylight. With only 10 hours of night to strike, she embarks on a relentless mission to destroy Zankoku’s army and reclaim the land before sunrise erases her power.
Armed with a katana capable of slaying men and demons alike, the Maiden confronts a roster of formidable foes - Yoroi, the defensive strategist; Shiruku, the swift claw-wielder; and Zankoku, the tyrannical warlord. A mysterious figure named Teixeira also emerges, offering a secret reward tied to love. Maiden of the Dark delivers a nostalgic yet fierce journey through the darkness of 10 action-packed platforming levels.
