eChampions League finals to take place in Stockholm on May 27
The eChampions League (eCL) is the official esports version of the UEFA Champions League (UCL), where individual players from all over Europe compete in EA SPORTS FIFA 22 played on PlayStation 5. The finals will take place on May 27 at the newly built Space Arena in the centre of Stockholm, a vault with 550 seats and state-of-the-art technology. The arena is a part of Space, the world’s largest centre for digital culture that recently opened in Stockholm, and which is owned by the creative entertainment company Pophouse.
32 players from across Europe competed in the eCL Knockout stages on April 23rd and 24th. Of those, 8 have continued into the eCL Finals on Friday, May 27th. The Finals will take place at the Space Arena in Stockholm, next to the main square Sergels Torg. It will be live broadcasted over EA SPORTS Twitch, UEFA YouTube and UCL TikTok as well as by several UCL media partners such as ESPN or TNT, and at the same time spectated by a live audience. Players compete for a total tournament share of over $280,000.

Initiated by EA SPORTS, publisher of the console game and official licensee of UEFA’s Club Competitions, in collaboration with UEFA, the eChampions League tournament was first established in the 2018/19 season. After two seasons of running the events solely online due to the pandemic, this year the competition returns to physical events and has been scaled up significantly. Stockholm and Space Arena were chosen as the location for the eCL Knockout stages and Finals after a thorough selection process.
