BoomBox Remastered Launches This Christmas: A Community-Built VR Rhythm Game Rises Again
This Christmas, BoomBox Remastered returns to VR, not as a reboot driven by trends or corporations, but as a comeback powered by community, music, and one woman’s refusal to let a game disappear.
Developed by Vancouver-based indie studio Cyberspline Games, BoomBox Remastered is the rebirth of a VR rhythm game (BoomBox Original) that built its identity around fitness, creativity, and player-driven content. After years of challenges that slowed development and threatened the future of the original game, Cyberspline made a bold decision: rebuild everything, openly, alongside the people who never stopped believing in it.
“At one point, BoomBox almost vanished,” says founder and lead developer Ekaterina Nosova. “What inspired me to go on was our VR
A Game Built With Players, Not Above Them
Unlike traditional rhythm games, BoomBox Remastered is designed to grow with its players. Custom songs and community-created maps are available directly inside the game - no mods, no external tools, no barriers. Players can drum, move, sweat, and create in one shared ecosystem where feedback turns into features.
To make that vision real, Cyberspline assembled a team that includes experienced Beat Saber modders and long-time rhythm-game creators. The goal was simple: respect the modding culture that built the genre, move fast, and listen closely.
The result is a VR drumming experience that blends full-body fitness, expressive rhythm gameplay, and creative freedom in visually reimagined environments. Scoring has been rebuilt around rhythm accuracy and flow, leaderboards start fresh, and the game evolves alongside its community rather than chasing static perfection.
A Platform for Indie Musicians
Music sits at the heart of BoomBox. From its earliest days, the game partnered with artists like FiXT and Camellia, and today BoomBox Remastered doubles down on that mission. The game actively collaborates with independent musicians, giving their tracks a place to be played, streamed, and discovered through community-made maps and live content.
“It’s about giving music a life inside the game,” says Nosova. “Not just as background sound, but as something players connect to and share.”
No Corporation. No Boardroom. Just Fun.
Cyberspline Games is proudly independent and woman-led. There’s no publisher steering decisions, no corporate roadmap dictating direction. The studio is driven by a founder who is also a gamer, a developer, and a streamer - still present in the community, still playing the game, still listening.
This Christmas launch isn’t framed as a finish line. It’s a milestone in an ongoing journey - one built on trust, persistence, and rhythm.
