Ascend to ZERO v1.2.0 Brings a Major Overhaul to the Gadget System

Flyway Games has released Ascend to ZERO v1.2.0, a major Fall Update that overhauls the action roguelike’s Gadget system and gives players more ways to use Gadgets.

The update is available today on Steam and XBOX, including XBOX Game Pass.

Previously, Gadgets primarily served as support tools. With v1.2.0, Gadgets now play a much larger role in an Avatar’s build, with new upgrade choices, additional synergies and changes designed to make them more useful during real-time combat.

Highlights include:

  • 8 new Gadgets

    • Lightning Boots, Frenzy Blade, Meltdown Launcher, Spatial Condenser, Energy Sword, Credit Amplifier, Recoil Lance and Chrono Mine join the lineup. Recoil Lance and Chrono Mine replace the former Firethrower and Rock Generator Gadgets.

  • A revamped Gadget Augmentation system

    • Gadget max level has increased from 5 to 8, with players choosing a Gadget Augmentation Trait three times as they level.

  • 7 unique traits for every Gadget

    • Trait choices can change how the same Gadget performs, creating different combinations and synergies depending on the build.

  • Major Gadget reworks

    • Existing Gadgets have also been adjusted to work more naturally during real-time combat and better complement specific builds.

  • ZERO Rush: DPS Overdrive

    • Launching alongside v1.2.0 is ZERO Rush: DPS Overdrive, a community challenge running from September 28 through October 7.

With the revamped Gadget system in place, players are challenged to push their builds as far as possible and achieve the highest DPS during the event period.

Players can submit a screenshot of their final results, along with the name of the Avatar used, through the official Ascend to ZERO Discord. The five highest-scoring players will receive the Ascend to ZERO Supporter Pack and an exclusive @Overdriver Discord role.

The update also lands alongside Ascend to ZERO’s participation in the Game Devs of Color Expo Steam Sale, giving players another reason to jump in or return to the game.
