Apidya' Special - the true Amiga shmup icon, is back!
Apidya' Special is a full, ground-up remake of the beloved 1992 Amiga shoot-’em-up, developed by Team Apidya and published by ININ Games. It is set to launch digitally on 25 August 2026. The game arrives on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, with pre-orders are already open for Nintendo Switch (eShop EU) and Xbox, while players can add the title to their wishlist now on Steam
Faithful to the original’s insect-themed fantasy world, challenging gameplay, and legendary soundtrack, this edition rebuilds the experience entirely from scratch and it has absoltuely no emulation involved. Players can choose between two visual modes: modern HD widescreen or the classic 4:3 presentation, switching seamlessly at any time. Authentic retro flair is further enhanced by optional CRT shaders, bloom effects, and accurate scanline simulation. Notably, the release also introduces enhanced graphics originally created for an unreleased console version, now shown publicly for the first time.

The game spans five distinct themed worlds, consisting of Meadow, Pond, Sewers, Cyber, and Lair. Each of these containing up to five levels, alongside 20 unique bosses and hidden special stages. There's even randomised events such as “Night Mode”, featuring fresh enemy designs, add replayability and surprise.
There's even a brand-new co-op mode lets a second player join the adventure, controlling a fully featured bee with its own weapons and abilities.
Audio remains a centrepiece: the package includes two CDs' worth of music from celebrated composer Chris Hülsbeck, combining the original Amiga recordings, remastered versions, and all-new studio arrangements. Accessibility has also been prioritised, with modernised difficulty settings designed to suit players of all skill levels.
To mark the countdown, a new trailer has been released showcasing the game’s key additions. Team Apidya will also appear at Gamescom 2026 (26–30 August, Cologne), located in Hall 10.2, Booth 6-8 in the retro area, where attendees can meet the team, celebrate launch week, and pick up limited goodies while stocks last.
