Steam Next Fest - Turn-based Retro Roguelike ‘Roguecraft DX’ Unleashes Lovecraftian Nightmare Chickens into Isometric Dungeons

Independent studio Badger Punch Games is proud to launch the new Steam Next Fest demo for upcoming turn-based roguelike Roguecraft DX. A love letter to classic dungeon crawlers, Roguecraft DX is a challenging but accessible adventure for roguelike newcomers and veterans alike, realised in beautiful handcrafted pixel animation.

Roguecraft DX’s demo gives PC players their first taste of Badger Punch Games’ critically acclaimed Amiga and Evercade releases, which was a smash hit with players across digital and physical retro platforms. The demo will offer access to five levels and all three player characters, while the full game is currently targeting a release in summer 2026, with a confirmed release date to be announced in the near future.

Open the dungeon’s gates and descend into the depths of Mordecoom, where untold riches await and unknowable horrors lurk around every procedurally-generated corner. Your experience will be different each time you descend into the gloomy darkness, with new layouts, threats, and tales of glorious battle to be told.

Select one of three classic heroes at the outset of your dungeon delve - the hulking warrior to cleave your enemies in two, the nimble rogue delivering teleporting backstabs, or the fragile powerhouse mage. Each represents a different difficulty level, offering a scalable challenge regardless of player skill. No matter who you choose, you’ll soon be carving a path through Eldritch nasties to the beat of the game’s original Amiga mod tracker soundtrack.

Become what you fear most in the all-new Chicken Run mode, where you’ll enter the dungeon as a solitary chicken with just 2HP. Collect golden eggs and transform into a formidable Chicklathotep, unleashing devastating poultry powers on the enemies who stand between you and Mordecoom’s hidden treasures.

Roguecraft DX may be an ode to old-school titles, but is designed around respecting modern players’ time. Runs typically last 30-40 minutes, ideal for both new players who want to dip their toe and roguelike diehards who want to run the gauntlet again and again.

Beware - whether you’re just sampling Roguecraft DX’s isometric delights or settling in for a sweaty session - the darkness hides grasping tentacles, drooling fangs… and some very angry chickens.

Key Features of Roguecraft DX:

  • Retro Visuals, Modern Accessibility: Roguecraft DX might look like a hardcore golden age adventure, but its flexible difficulty keeps it challenging and fun for both hard-bitten roguelike fiends and total newbies.

  • Classic Heroes and New Challenges: Master the way of the warrior, the rogue, and the mage across procedurally generated dungeon runs. Each hero offers a different difficulty, and every new adventure promises fresh secrets to discover and battles to push your skills to the limit.

  • Steam Next Fest Demo Incoming: PC players will soon get to test their mettle against the unfathomable creatures that prowl Mordecoom’s forgotten depths, with access to five of the full game’s 15 levels and all three heroes to try out across 30-40 minute runs.

Roguecraft DX will be released on PC via Steam in summer 2026. Wishlist the game and play the demo now.
