War Thunder tells a story about the symbol of Soviet-Afghan war

Gaijin Entertainment announces that one of the key new content pieces in the “Drone Age” update for War Thunder would be the legendary Soviet Su-25 attack aircraft, one of the symbols of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

The very first prototypes of the Su-25 were battle-tested there in the 1980s, and the first serial Rooks (Soviet Army nickname for the jet) were also sent to Afghanistan to provide air support. The Su-25 trailer features the “Gruppa Krovi” (“Blood Type”) song originally created by the iconic Soviet rock band “Kino” and reflecting on the events of that war.

The Su-25 is an easy to manufacture and maintain attack aircraft designed for direct support of ground forces and capable of operating from unprepared airfields. The Su-25 is equipped with a 30-mm rapid-fire cannon, its ballistic calculator allows it to drop unguided weapons from low and medium altitudes quite effectively, and there is also a solid arsenal of air-to-surface guided missiles.

The pilot is protected by an armored capsule made of steel and titanium armor, and the front of the canopy is armored as well. The aircraft is a real die-hard, able to survive not only bursts of the. 50 bullets, but in some cases direct hits of the aircraft or AA cannons. During the Afghan war, Su-25s made more than 60,000 sorties, while only 36 aircraft were lost, and in most cases the pilot survived.

The trailer uses the version of the “Gruppa krovi” recorded by the Baltic Symphony Orchestra and the choir at the Lendok studio exclusively for War Thunder. The vocalist is Peter Salnikov, a musician, videogame journalist and the author of The House of the Dev podcast. This project honors the double anniversary of the original song creators: 2022 is the year when Kino band Viktor Tsoi (the song creator and the frontmen of Kino band) would have turned 60 and the Kino group would have turned 40.

The Su-25 is currently in service in more than 20 countries around the world ranging from Azerbaijan to Ethiopia, and War Thunder will feature not only the original Soviet version of the vehicle, but also the export version called Su-25K.
